2017-2018 Season Write-Up

Overton Boys Basketball 2017-2018

The Overton boys finished the season with a 19-5 record and won both the FKC regular season and tournament titles.  The Eagles were a joy to watch and coach this past season as they scored over 65 points per game and played at a very fast pace.  The pace allowed the Eagles to collect over 10 steals per game and force 20 turnovers each game.  We were slightly undersized but played with great energy and speed this season.

The boys did a great job protecting our home court as we went 9-1 at home this season.  In true road games the Eagles went 7-2 as well this year.  In neutral site games we only went 3-2.  These records are very impressive considering we started 0-2 on the year and after the holiday tournament we were sitting at 4-4.  The Eagles then rattled off 15 consecutive wins, many in very exciting fashion, before falling to Ansley-Litchfield in sub-districts.  One of the biggest reasons for our improvement this year was cutting our turnovers down to under 12 turnovers each game and shooting 68% from the line which is one of the tops in all of Nebraska high school basketball.

Several records were broken this year.  Morgan Wallace broke the single game steals record with 11 (previous record was 10), twice.  Morgan also broke the single season steals record with 98 (previous record was 81) and the single season 3 point record with 66 (previous record was 63).  As a team we set the team record for made three pointers with 167 (previous record was 147).  In addition to breaking those records, Braden Kizer also went over 1,000 career points during our win over Gibbon.

The boys’ basketball team also had 2 All-Conference selections.  Braden Kizer and Morgan Wallace were both selected to First Team All-Conference.
