Marching Band Earns "Excellent" Rating at Indian Marching Festival

The Overton Eagles Marching Band attended the Indian Marching Festival in Ogallala on Saturday, September 30. This annual event was conceived by Ogallala Director of Bands Mr. Mike Schlake (a former Overton band director!) to allow area marching bands to perform for judges and the community. The Indian Marching Festival offers bands a chance to perform both in the street and on the field. The Overton band participated in the parade only, and this was our first marching event of the school year!

The band performed the song, "Everybody Talks," and received an "Excellent" rating. This rating is determined by combining the scores of four judges: Dr. Brian Alber and Lori Evans served as judges for marching effect, and Dr. Duane Bierman and Rock Skinner judged music effect. The band missed a "Superior" rating by only two points! The comments and scores we received from these judges will help us to improve for our next two performances: Harvest of Harmony on October 7 and Minden Bandfest on October 14.

Thank you to the students for their extremely hard work over the past few weeks as we prepared for this event, Alvin & Kayleen Zimmerman and Anthony & Terah Smith for their help and support throughout the day, and Amy Barnes for getting us there and back safely, comfortably, and punctually. Thanks also to Mr. Aten, Mr. Fleischman, and the School Board for their continued support of these important opportunities for our students to express themselves and show off their Eagle Pride around the state.
